The Targus Notebook Computer Key Lock fits and secures the notebook computer as well as any cable locking system I have used.
Amazon has the best price, but only lets you buy 2. We've bought over 50 of these locks for our computers, speakers, projectors, and document cameras for our high school classroom computer/media carts. They've worked great and are reasonably priced.
Suddenly, the inconvenience of keeping a small key for a keyed-lock does not seem so bad. This lock will work really well for a few months until it decides to spontaneously change its combination on you. Have fun working your way through all 10,000 possible combos or, like me, prying it off your expensive computer.
Finally forced it open by using pliers to force the button down (the combination was right the whole time) after a few days of carrying around the whole cable. Finally last week it got stuck and no amount of jiggling was able to unstick it. Not a good lock if you want something dependable. I used this lock for about six months before finally tossing it. It occasionally got stuck but I was always able to jiggle it open eventually (after about 5 minutes).
And the second time, the combination was still 0000 but who knows what it is now. First of all, Targus is aware of the mysterious/magical combination resets and their only suggestion is to cut it off and buy a new lock. This is a DEFECTIVE product that apparently has a design flaw.
Clearly it is defective and if you're selling this defective product, I should I assume that ALL of the products on your site is defective. If an attorney is reading this, you should put together a class action lawsuit against Targus. If the people from Amazon read this, you should stop selling this product. If the people from Targus read this, you should refund everyone who has a defective lock or replace it with the original lock.
I'm not doing it again. I had the small, original lock for 3 years and never had a problem but lost the cable so I bought this beefier one but that was a mistake. This review regards the Defcon CL, the thicker cable security 4 digit combination lock. Cleary, there is a large amount of people with this problem.
For me, both times, I left the lock with the correct combination (the open position) and when I went to press the button to lock my laptop, it was reset. The first time it happened, I went through 9700 combinations to find the right one. Fortunately, the lock was not on my laptop.
